I picked this up so I could add a cage and follow focus to my DSLR. It shoots great video, but leaves something to be desired as far as the AF is concerned. This was a perfect solution. Attaches easily and securely, and can be expanded to accommodate all kinds of setups. I wind up choosing Neewer products because I have a number of them, and they never disappoint. If you're looking to expand your rig, this is a good option to help get you there.

It is nice to be able to add 15mm rods for accessories on the camera, indeed many places, but that's about the extent of it. As always anything providing a potential solution to those "dagnabit I need a way to mount..." moments even if used only once is useful.

This is a solid but blocky base plate. The build quality and finish are just as good as it's much more expensive competitors. It is slightly taller than other base plates. This is not necessarily a good or bad thing, it just is. The only little thing that bothers me is the spacing of the threads on the bottom. I'd like to use the threads on the far ends instead of the threads in the middle for stability. To make this happen with my longest tripod plate, I have to move the rubber safety stopper to the side (see picture). This makes it hard to slide onto the tripod. It is still a solid connection using the middle threads but it's not what I'd prefer. Overall this is a great base plate option. It's functionality and quality are spot on.

The fit and finish on this base plate are great. It holds 15mm rods securely, and attaches to the camera base securely as well. It does exactly what it is supposed to, and does it well. Note, that you will not be able to use a matte box that attaches to the rails on a mirrorless camera with this without a spacer between the camera and the base plate. But for other applications, like mounting a mini follow focus or v-mount plate, it will work perfectly in most applications.

I use this base plate with my Blackmagic pocket 4K, it’s basically just a small plate that allows you to attach 15mm rods (for rigging a follow focus, handles, battery plate etc), and then had threads at the bottom so you can add your own tripod plate to that!It’s metal, feels solid, but has a textured top so as not to scratch the camera and help prevent rotation (though I use a cage with two screws at the bottom so mine can’t rotate anyway!). Rods mount very solidly, they’re not going to come out, so I wouldn’t worry if using a shoulder rig with it - the rods won’t slip!It’s fairly light weight and also not too tall, so it looks neat and doesn’t add too much bulk to your rig! There’s nothing bad to say about it at all, does exactly what it’s supposed to!

Right out of the box, I was impressed. The plate is VERY STRONG. Thick, flat black metal. excellent quality The screws are the same. I was negative when I thought I would have to replace them. They are managers as well. Since I bought it, it has been on the shoulder rig for my Canon C100 ever since. Have been testing it by holding it upside down over my bed to check the quality of the screws and other things to make sure it isn't a steal or too good to be true. The other bases I've seen from Shape and Ikan range from 150 to 200, which I think is insane for a baseplate. This was less than 50, and I am beyond thrilled with my purchase.It also tightens perfectly. However, handles are great, they are somewhat little. I took some from the baseplate of Kamerar's shoulder rig so that I could use a wrench to tighten them if I needed to. The ones that come with easily tighten. Due to my large fingers and preference for uniformity, I prefer it.With confidence, buy. I'll definitely continue shopping at Smallrig. If you are constructing a rig for a camcorder, I recommend using this baseplate in conjunction with a less expensive DSLR shoulder rig, such as the Kamarer one on Amazon or making your own. It is STRONG.
