Very well made, with clean, smooth threads, and flawless optics. Variable ND is a must for shooting cinematic looking videos and the black diffusion helps with that look as well. This is my first diffusion filter and I like the look a lot. Adjustability is also smooth and easy. 10/10

Very good quality black diffusion ND filter from Neewer made from very good materials and will last a long time if treated correctly.
I have been using this for over four months now and so far I have had no issues, very easy to use just a case of screwing it onto your 77mm lens and then turning it to the ND range you want.
Range is from ND2 to ND32 which covers a good range so it will be a filter you will have in your camera bag most of the time, has a handle I guess you can call it which makes it very easy to rotate through the different ND ranges which is a nice touch.
I can confirm so far I have had no X shadows showing up on my images/view finder when I am rotating through the ND ranges like you often see with cheaper filters and I have even seen on more expensive filters than this one so this shows the quality of the filter.
The black diffusion I’m personally still undecided about I can see the difference in my photos which is exactly what I want BUT so far I have not taken a photo where I really needed that dreamy look but its good to know I have it when needed.
The filter is a bit on the expensive size but when you see the quality of it you will soon realise it is worth every penny.
Overall I am very happy with the filter and I would definitely recommend it.

I was excited when I learned this black diffusion + variable ND filter existed. This is a great idea and a huge time saver on set. Being able to tune in to the desired ND intensity without having to swap filters and on top of that have a Black Diffusion filter is a type of practicality I have never imagined and not I'd like to have that extended to every other lens size and diffusion intensity available.
It is a money and space saver, as I don't have to walk around with a collection of ND filters. I don't have to stack a bunch of filters in front of the lens as well.
With that said, I have to tell you it is not perfect though.
I did some tests using a good spectrometer and a light meter to check how precise is the filter and here's what I found:
• Set at ND2 position it was supposed to cut off 1 stop of light, but in reality, it cut 1.55. More than expected then. In terms of color temperature, it cooled down by an amount of 232K. Not absurd, but not neutral. It also cast quite a considerable amount of magenta over the image, about CC#0.8M.
• Set at ND8 position it was supposed to cut off 3 stops of light, and it was virtually spot on with a reduction of 2.9459 stops. In terms of color temperature, it cooled down by an amount of 254K. Again, not absurd, but not neutral. The magenta cast over the image was constant, about CC#0.8M.
• Set at ND32 position it was supposed to cut off 5 stops of light, but in reality, it cut off 4.5153. Quite less than expected. In terms of color temperature, it cooled down by an amount of 305K. Even more distant from neutral. The magenta cast over the image was constant, about CC#0.8M.
What do those numbers and information mean? Well, the filter is still very handy and useful but it is not 100% neutral, and if used in combination or in alternation with another filter, or even in a situation with or without a filter, it will require some color adjustment under the pickier eyes during post-production. that is if we're talking about a high-precision routine in terms of color. For the majority of the projects, the color changes and shifts may be negligible though.

This diffusion filter works very well. There does not seem to be any issues with picture color shifts. Gives pictures a classic look. Works well with my lenses. The ND is great. Do not get the X when moving through different ND levels. Gives a smooth water look which is what most people use ND filters for. Works well to give a cinematic look and gives the option to select the correct speeds. I would definitely recommend this filter.

Happy to say that I've experience zero distortion or artifacts so far while shooting with this filter. Glass feel very premium. The combination of ND & black diffusion should help lighten my load when I'm traveling. The red handle on the outside of the filter makes adjustment easy. Results have been fantastic so far. Looking forward to using this on future projects.

I picked up this NEEWER 77mm Black Diffusion 1/4 Effect with ND2-ND32 Variable Filter to hopefully replace my current ND with something that might be better.
You receive the filter, a filter case, and a microfiber cloth in the box.
The filter is exceptionally well-made with the function of the filter is incredibly smooth. I enjoy the look and feel of the images I'm getting from this filter.
Overall, if you're looking for a double-function filter for your 77mm lens, consider picking up the NEEWER 77mm Black Diffusion ND filter.
